Our curriculum is customised, personalised and designed to build upon the experiences and backgrounds of pupils, mitigating barriers to learning: aspirations, communication, learning behaviours and social deprivation. We have designed our curriculum to ensure that it contributes to our culture, aims and ethos as well as overcoming those barriers to learning outlined above.
The Orchards’ curriculum promotes and develops SMSC and British Values, provides breadth of experience and prepares children for later life to improve social mobility.
Underpinned by standards and academic excellence, our curriculum is suitable for all learners- not just those who excel in English and Maths. We provide a balance between academic subjects as well as personal and physical development.
We have a set of standards for each subject which show a clear progression of skills and knowledge. Teachers use these standards to assess foundation subjects, in turn enabling them to monitor pupil progress.
Children are involved in curriculum design as teachers create ‘skeleton’ plans which are adapted in accordance to pupils’ interests.
Our curriculum always follows the: teach, practise, repeat model to ensure that children think, discuss, practise and explore but most importantly, embed.
